Sunshine, Spirit, and Sportsmanship: The 10th Annual Sports Day Results

May 5, 2026

May 1st marked a milestone for AIS-Salzburg as we held our 10th Annual Sports Day under bluebird skies — warm, sunny, and absolutely perfect for a day of competition. Students were divided into six colour-coded teams, each led by a teacher and a resident assistant, and competed fiercely throughout the day for the coveted Sports Day Trophy.

The excitement began even before Friday arrived. Organized by our student council, Spirit Week ran Monday through Thursday with a different dress-up theme each day: Denim Day, Twin Day, Dressed for the Wrong Place, and Throwback Time Machine. Students and staff alike embraced every theme, setting a wonderful tone of fun and community heading into the main event.

On Sports Day itself, the morning featured badminton, ball hockey, basketball, volleyball, and running events, while the afternoon brought soccer, high jump, long jump, fun competitions, and a climactic relay race. The scoring system rewarded consistency across events: team events awarded 5 points down to 1, while individual and pair events offered 3, 2, or 1 point to the top finishers.

And what a day of competition it was. The basketball championship was decided by a single point. The volleyball title came down to just a few points separating the top teams. Perhaps most dramatic of all was the boys’ 100m race — a genuine photo finish between three runners that required slow-motion video review to determine the outcome, and even then, the margin was nearly indistinguishable. Moments like these had the entire community on the edge of their seats.

Beyond the competition itself, staff were moved by the camaraderie on display. Teachers observed students from different grade levels — many of whom rarely cross paths during the school day — cheering each other on enthusiastically and celebrating together as one team. That spirit of connection was every bit as memorable as the results.

We hope you enjoy the photos and video below — including that unforgettable finish line footage!

And the results: after a full day of hard-fought competition, the final standings were as follows:

🥇 1st Place — Team Lavender (40.5 pts) — led by Mrs. Welch and RA Ali
🥈 2nd Place — Team New Olive (32 pts) — led by Ms. Baehler and RA Cody
🥉 3rd Place — Team Pink (28 pts) — led by Mr. Leicher and Ms. Monger
