Graduates of the American International School athletics program are well-rounded student athletes who are capable of balancing academics with their athletic commitments and are dedicated team members who have experienced and persevered through the trials and tribulations that coincide with working with others to achieve a common goal. An AIS-Salzburg athlete understands the importance and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the rewards of good sportsmanship.

Individual & Team Sports

photo varistyAt AIS-Salzburg, students have opportunities to play team sports and individual sports within the offerings of the Danube Valley Athletics Conference (DVAC) of which AISS is a member. DVAC consists of 12 schools from Austria, Hungary and Slovakia. DVAC holds a mid-season festival and a season-end tournament to claim DVAC champions.

In addition to DVAC competitions, students can select from a variety of different sports offer through our physical education program. In the past, student-athletes of sports disciplines outside of what we offer have been permitted to train with private instructors within Salzburg. We are happy to help arrange any such requests.

Team membership fees

Members of AISS teams that compete and travel regularly are required to pay a membership fee to cover the costs of travelling to DVAC events. This fee is announced to the players at the beginning of the season once the schedule is set and estimates on costs for transportation, overnight lodging, and tournament fees can be made. The fee also goes towards the expenses not associated with DVAC events such as travelling to friendship matches, uniforms, equipment, and hiring referees for home games.

Academic Minimum Requirements

The schedule is demanding and athletes that sign up for a team are expected be fully committed to both the team and their studies. Athletes who have two or more academic warning notices at midterm are not permitted to travel with the team.
