.Student Life.Weekend Activity

Because over 80% of our students are full-boarders,weekend activities and their organization are a very important part of our programming. Although the weekends do represent time when our students may be free from academic commitments, an activity requirement ensures that they are engaged in healthy and interesting events.

All full-boarding students except for seniors are required to participate in a minimum of three weekend activities. Each Wednesday, the resident-care staff develops and plans between 10 and 15 activities which will be scheduled between Friday afternoon and Sunday evening study hall. These activities are divided into three categories: Active activities, social activities, and cultural activities. The school requires that all students participate in at least two active activities and one social activity each weekend. Once a month, students are required to participate in one cultural activity minimally. There is no limit to the number of activities that a student can participate in each weekend.

Junior high students are required to participate in more weekend activities than the high-school students and the resident-staff also organizes certain activities which are exclusively for seventhand eighth-graders.

When not engaged in school-organized activities, the students generally have free time on the weekends and may leave campus provided they have parental permission, sign out, and have no restrictions in place. All students, whether full- or five-day boarders are required to report to the dormitories as of 18:00 on Sunday evening for evening study hall.

Full-boarding students may check out to immediate family members on weekends with proper notice to the Dean of Students. Check-outs are not permitted on certain weekends of the school year including the final weekend of each trimester grading period as well as the weekend before final examinations.
