The American International School-Salzburg campus and grounds are located a short tenminute drive from the center of the Salzburg Old City. The campus includes three buildings which include all instructional facilities, kitchen and dining rooms, student lounge, library, and both male and female dormitories. Encompassing three hectares in a rural section of the city, the school campus is surrounded by the city’s greenbelt and the surroundings are quiet and rural. Although it is unusual to find a boarding school in an city, Salzburg, Austria actually accommodates our goals and our students’ needs quite comfortably and safely. As a small city of roughly 150,000, Salzburg is safe, culturally-rich, and in the center of Western Europe, providing a perfect and stimulating environment for our full boarders.
The classrooms at AIS-Salzburg are small, modern, and fully equipped for up-to-date instruction. Given our student-to-teacher ration of 1:6, we do not require large amounts of space and the small classroom sizes emphasizes the close, personal attention given to each and every student in our community.
The dormitories are located in the main building which was constructed in the 18th century and are fully modernized. All dormitory rooms include bathrooms and showers en suite and contain between one and three students. Most new male students to the school can plan on being in a triple room; most girls in a double. For 2011, AIS-Salzburg expects completion of a new facilities which will include a number of instructional classrooms as well as a new boys’ dormitory consisting solely of double rooms.
All physical education courses and sports team practices are held at the Salzburg University sports center located around 10 minutes from campus. These facilities are state-of-the art and provide olympic training to regional athletes in nearly all sports. the ability of the AIS-Salzburg students to use these facilities is a remarkable advantage as they represent the highest standards and the latest technology.
