The American International School-Salzburg has obtained a special status in Austria recognized by the government and is not under the legal limitations for issuance of visas (quota system). Due to this, AIS-Salzburg is guaranteed visas for all the students who require them.

Here are the general requirements and stipulations for all students at AIS-Salzburg who are not Austrian citizens:

European Union Citizens:

EU nationals may live and study at AIS-Salzburg without a visa. All EU nationals are, however, registered at the school as resident for the school year at our address.

Non-European Union citizens who are allowed to enter Austria without a visa:

Citizens of nations who are allowed to enter Austria without a visa and stay up to three months must gain a student visa. If the student is from the USA, Japan, Australia, etc., the visa can be applied for after entrance into Austria and registration at the school address.

Students who require a visa to enter and remain in Austria:

Citizens of nations who require a visa to enter Austria and to remain at the school for the school year must apply for a visa and obtain this before arrival. Given the school’s status outside of the quota system, the visa is guaranteed for all of our students but may take up to three months to receive. Upon notice of acceptance and payment of the tuition deposit, the school will send a letter of invitation to the appropriate embassy or consulate and the family makes the initial visa application. Proof of health insurance which is valid in Austria (arranged through the school) is required.

Once the initial visa is acquired, the school office will renew this annually in Salzburg as soon as the office has been informed of the desire to re-enroll and the tuition deposit for the following year has been received.
