To gain acceptance to the American International School-Salzburg, students need to meet the following criteria:
1. Proven Academic Ability and Background
Above average to excellent school preparation (especially in English and mathematics) proven by previous school transcripts.
2. English Language Ability
For non-native English speakers, an appropriate level of English language ability for the desired grade level of entrance is required. Students who wish to apply for grades 7 and 8 can have a moderate level of English, students wishing for entrance into the high school grades must prove an intermediate to advanced level of English. Students applying for entrance into the 12 grade, must prove an outstanding level of English ability in spoken and written form.
3. Understanding and Desire
All applicants must be in full understanding of the school’s programs and goals as well as in agreement concerning the school’s expectations and structure. The desire to take part and contribute to an international school and student body with appropriate respect, openness, and tolerance is expected.
Application Procedure
Applications are accepted throughout the year and without deadline. However, when the dormitories are full, admissions are stopped. This normally occurs at the beginning of June. For students who require a visa to study and live in Austria, the application process should be completed before the end of April each year.
To apply to AIS-Salzburg, the following documents should be submitted:
1. Student Application Form
2. Official school transcripts (translated) from all previous high school grades) or the
most recent school year if applying to grades 7, 8, or 9.
3. One teacher recommendation from your most recent English teacher
4. One teacher recommendation from your most recent Mathematics teacher
5. The application fee of € 75.-
Any of the above-mentioned application documentation can be submitted at any time. Once received, the school administration will open an application file. When this file is complete, the administration and select members of the teaching faculty will review the application and make a decision as to admission. This is communicated immediately with the family and applicant.
If accepted, the family should submit a Notice of Intention form signalling their interest in enrollment and pay the tuition deposit for the school year. Once this is received, a space in the school is reserved for the student.
