It's hard to believe that The American International School-Salzburg's doors have been open for thirty-three years. A new school year has already begun and we've welcomed both returning students and a new group of young people from all over Europe who are the future of AIS-Salzburg and the world. In a time of profound change I think that we can all take comfort in knowing that the Salzburg International Preparatory School/American International School-Salzburg remains in its place in beautiful Salzburg, Austria. The campus and surrounding Alps are as beautiful as always, and cultural pulse of the "Mozartstadt" beats to its familiar rhythm; enchanting hundreds of thousands each season. What a great opportunity we all have had to be a part of this school and community and stake claim to memories of such brilliance and intensity that last a lifetime.

SIPS/AIS-Salzburg of the 21st century is a wonderful place, and it just keeps getting better. Despite the economic downturn, variations in the currency markets, and international worries about security, we continue to offer a solid, college-preparatory program in this wonderful home-away-from-home. Our students are as bright as ever and continue to provide the life force of our school although if you attended SIPS in the early 1980s you might be surprised to find how international the student body has become. Our diversity and the richness of our community grows by leaps and bounds each year giving new meaning and emphasis to our desire to teach young people to become active and responsible members of society. However, many of the teachers who taught here in the late 1980s are still here and doing what they do best: delivering the academic material with experience, dedication, and devotion to the needs of their students.

It is our sincere hope that each of those who were once a part of our community and spent a part of their lives here within these halls return to visit the campus and renew your ties to the school. Aside from meeting up with some familiar faces and getting reacquainted with the old city of Salzburg, we love to hear what you have been up to and how your lives beyond the school have developed and unfolded: Each of you represents and exciting chapter in an ever-growing history of the school community. It is also of great interest to have you meet with our present students and speak with them about your experiences, hopes, dreams, discoveries, and memories. Although we may be scattered around the globe, we hope that you all know that there is always a place where you will feel welcomed at Moosstrasse 106. Please look ahead in your calendar and see if there is not a time and good excuse to come back to Salzburg for a visit.

In renewing the school's Website, we have been very pleased to see the number of alumni and former students who have submitted their contact information to our database. Please continue to pass the word and update your data when necessary. From this database, we hope to establish further, more regular contact with all of you and involve you more directly in the present and future life of the school. Additionally, we would like to continue the young tradition of inviting alumni to return to the school for a reunion in June before the summer school sessions begin. We were thrilled to have many alumni from the classes of '90-'92 here in 2002 and members of the classes of '96-'98 here in June, 2003. Contact us with your plans if you would like to arrange a get-together in the summer of 2009! Nothing beats the feeling of coming home to Salzburg and spending a few nights with former classmates in the dormitories of the school.

In the Spring of 2010, the long awaited and overdue, "Alumni Profiles" will finally take their rightful place here on our website. We would like to invite alumni from a broad range of years to contribute to this section by answering a few biographical questions and adding their thoughts and memories. If you would be interested in such a contribution (we hope to rotate profiles regularly) please drop me a line and I will send the necessary information to you. We will also be adding an alumni news section to the site and hope that you will consider contributing the latest events in your lives to us for inclusion.

Lastly, we would like to involve members of the alumni to add their experience and histories to our beautiful commencement exercises each year at the Klessheim Palace. Commencement, 2010 will be held on May 28 at 15:00. Whether you would like to speak to our graduates or simply relive a very special moment of your lives, please contact us and we will assist you in your preparations.

We hope you have a great year and decide to renew your connections with the school a soon as possible. We would love to speak with you about our united past and future. All the best for 2010-2011!
