The English assistance program is an essential, integrated aspect of our academic and diploma program. With a student body that generally contains over 25 different nationalities, English instruction is essential and central to our mission and philosophy. To adequately meet the needs of our students, AIS-Salzburg engages a highly-qualified and dedicated staff of English instructors and has developed a program of study which provides intensive language instruction without sacrificing promotion toward completion of the high school diploma.
The English Assistance program at AIS-Salzburg is made up of four levels of language instruction which take one academic year each to complete. Upon enrollment at the school, all non-native English speakers are tested and placed according to these results in one of the following levels:
Introductory English Assistance
3 hours of English per day
Intermediate English Assistance
3 hours of English per day
Advanced English Assistance
2 hours of English per day
Accelerated English Assistance
1 or two hours of English per day
The four levels are made up of individual courses as follows:
Introductory English A
Grammar and Composition
Introductory English B
Reading and Vocabulary
Introductory English C
Speaking and Listening
Intermediate English A
Grammar and Composition
Intermediate English B
Reading and Vocabulary
Intermediate English C

Advanced English A

Accelerated English

Students who are enrolled in the Introductory and Intermediate English level are not required to take German or Spanish/French. Students at the Advanced level begin German studies alongside English, and students with one of the Accelerated English level courses are also required to study German and French or Spanish.
All students at the English Assistance level have a full load of courses and are required to meet the school’s general promotion and diploma requirements. Typical schedules at the various English assistance levels are listed below:
