The Advanced Placement program was developed over 50 years ago in the United States as a means for high-school students to both complete university-level academic work while still in high school as well as provide equivalency and excellent preparation for university studies around the globe through the Advanced Placement International Diploma (APID).

Essentially, the AP program is a collection of examinations over 30 subject areas for which our students may register and take each spring (beginning in May) on the AIS-Salzburg campus. As a part of the regular academic program at our school, students will necessarily be engaged in coursework in the 11th and 12th grade at the AP level. Such courses are marked with AP and are approved each year by the College Board which oversees the AP program.

Success on AP Examinations these exams can (1) earn a student university credit in most North American universities and colleges, (2) help them gain acceptance into highly selective universities and colleges, and (3) achieve equivalency with secondary school diplomas for qualification and acceptance at universities around the world.

The APID is available to students attending secondary schools outside the United States and to U.S. resident students applying to universities outside the country. The APID is not a substitute for a high school diploma, but rather provides additional certification of outstanding academic excellence.

To earn an APID, a student attending school within the United States must indicate on at least one AP Exam answer sheet that the results should be sent to a university outside the United States. Please see AP International Recognition for a list of universities outside the U.S. that use AP in admissions.
