Academics

The American International School-Salzburg Association board of directors, administrators, and teaching faculty are responsible for the establishment of a curricular program which is based upon the school's statement of mission and educational principles. This program includes the arts, English, foreign languages, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education at all grade levels (7-12). It is based upon American educational standards and practices and the Advanced-Placement program guidelines. AIS-Salzburg's curriculum, policies, and teaching materials are consistent with those found in most accredited independent schools in the United States, thus enabling our students' and entrance into American universities and colleges.

An important priority of the school is the placement of our graduates into select colleges and universities in North America. Our diploma program is purely college-preparatory and demands a high level of motivation and sound learning skills on the part of the students. This is necessarily reflected in our admissions decisions. Students who are interested in gaining acceptance to universities outside of North America are encouraged to discuss their plans with the school's College Counselor and will need to complete a specific number of Advanced Placement Examinations with acceptable scores. The Advanced Placement Diploma, when coupled with a college-preparatory, high-school diploma, is recognized for admission to universities in over fifty countries worldwide. The US high-school diploma with emphasis in English-as-a-second language is designed to qualify non-native English speakers for university studies in the United States and the United Kingdom.

This section of our homepage also contains specific information regarding our diploma, the nature of our college-preparatory curriculum, and the ESL program, along with a listing of courses, a faculty directory, and introductions to our programs in the arts and travel program.
