Tuition and Fees

Tuition rates at the American International School-Salzburg are set at a rate which is predicted to cover the operating budget for the school year as is common among all not-for-profit schools and institutions. Tuition-based income to the school, however, does not begin to cover necessary capital investments, financial aid, or shortfalls due to international monetary exchange rates or economic conditions. Therefore, the school association is dependent upon contributions, sponsorships, and other forms of giving to meet annual operating costs.

Tuition rates for full-boarding students include:

  1. Instruction, guidance, and room and board for the entire school year.
  2. Accident insurance which provides coverage both while in school is in session and during excursions and activities.
  3. Two excursions (Fall and Winter) to destinations in Europe including transportation, accommodation, and two meals each day.
  4. Five ski or snowboarding trips to destinations in the Austrian Alps.
  5. One standardized test.
  6. A wide variety of weekend and evening activities, student activities, and field trips throughout the school year.

Tuition rates for five-day boarding students include:

  1. Instruction, guidance, and room and board for the entire school year except from 18:00 Fridays until 18:00 Sundays.
  2. Accident insurance which provides coverage while school is in session and during excursions and school activities.
  3. Two excursions (Fall and Winter) to destinations in Europe including transportation, accommodation, and two meals each day.
  4. One standardized test.
  5. Various student activities.

Day student tuition includes:

  1. Daily instruction and guidance throughout the school year.
  2. Accident insurance which provides coverage both while school is in session and during excursions and school activities.
  3. Two excursions (Fall and Winter) to destinations in Europe including transportation, accommodation, and two meals each day.
  4. One standardized test.
  5. Various student activities.

AIS-Salzburg tries to make the tuition rates as all-inclusive as possible but recognizes that fees for books, school supplies, etc.. Additional mandatory fees include the establishment of an incidentals account which covers personal, incidental costs throughout the year, the direct invoicing of book purchases, and fees for participation in competitive athletics.

Other Possible Expenses:

Athletics Fee (€100 per trimester or season):

Students who are involved in competitive athletics at AIS-Salzburg pay an athletic fee each trimester of participation. These funds help cover the costs of uniforms, materials, tournament organization, rental of facilities, and some of the costs of travel. The costs associated with athletic travel which are not covered by the athletics fee are deducted from the student's incidentals account.

Laundry Charges (€75 - per trimester):

The school provides full-boarding students with a laundry service. The charge covers pick-up, cleaning, folding, and return on a weekly basis.

Visas and Local Medical Insurance:

Some students may require a student visa to attend AIS-Salzburg. Costs associated with the application and renewal process are passed on to the parents. Additionally, the Austrian government requires the purchase of local medical insurance coverage (from an Austria provider) for students requiring a visa. The AIS-Salzburg accounting office can provide further information on these subjects.

Financial Aid

The American International School-Salzburg offers a small amount of financial aid to returning students annually. In 2008-2009, the school offered direct financial assistance to approximately 10% of the student body.

Financial assistance is offered to qualifying returning students who have successfully completed at least one year of enrollment at AIS-Salzburg and have demonstrated superior academic achievment, social leadership, and involvement in the school community. In April of each year, students who have submitted their commitment to re-enroll form may pick up scholarship application packets in the school office. An evaluation of these documents and an interview before the end of the month will determine the distribution of financial aid for the following school year. In most cases, students who receive financial aid receive a reduction of up to 50% of tuition for the school year.

Other forms of financial assistance include sibling discounts and tuition freezes. Further information concerning these are available from the school office personnel.

Contributions and Gifts

The American International School-Salzburg extends an invitation to all alumni, parents, and others associated with our institution to consider contributing to the AIS-Salzburg Scholarship Fund as long as they are not beneficiaries themselves of financial aid or assistance. Contributions, great or small, directly contribute to the school’s goals by providing an outstanding educational opportunity to a student or students who may not otherwise have the means.

If you wish to contribute, please contact the school offices at office(at)ais-salzburg.at.
