Being surrounded by young people from all over the world every day, watching them grow and develop and become young adults, is a very rewarding and enriching experience for me. Being a part of this process and assisting and contributing to it, makes my professional life meaningful and fulfilling. The daily contact with the students and their parents brings a complexity of situations which leads to learning and improving not only for our students but also ourselves.
The variety of the programs we offer around the year, the excitement we all feel at the beginning of every new school year, and the feeling of belonging to a borderless international community of eager learners are values and experiences that keep us motivated and tuned to the young generation in our care.

I love the subjects that I teach - history, geography, and foreign language, and I love working with young people, introducing them to the rich and stimulating field of the humanities and helping them develop and mature intellectually, socially, and personally. At an international school especially, we need to study various societies both past and present, as well as languages so that we develop an understanding and appreciation for diversity and deepen our contact and solidarity with others.
As college counselor, I assist the students with university selection and application and encourage them to continue academic pursuits after they graduate, because I believe (as the ancients) that the pursuit of knowledge in itself contributes to virtue. Having students acting nobly must be our highest goal in education.

I teach because I was and am an eternal student. I loved school and the rhythm of the school calendar. I have always had a low tolerance for boredom, and the work of a teacher is always challenging and new; each year brings fresh faces and ideas as well as a plethora of new literary works to add to the older classics.
I have many goals for my students, but two are of particular importance to me. As a young graduate student I was given the job of teaching freshman composition at the university where I was studying; far too many of the students I taught were woefully unprepared for college writing. It has since been an important mission for me to insure to the best of my ability that the secondary school students I teach will be able to write on a college level with ease and flair. Secondly, I try to expose my students to a diversity of cultures and eras through a wide selection of literature from different time periods and countries. In doing so, I hope to increase their awareness and appreciation of their rich cultural heritage.

One of the great advantages of a smaller learning environment like AIS-Salzburg is it facilitates faculty and staff in having fluent lines of communication. This minimizes problems and opens creative channels. Futhermore, it allows for up-close and personal interaction to connect with the students. This enables me to frequently engage on a one-to-one basis with each student, better meeting the needs and interests of each unique individual and providing added motivation to our learning community.

I feel that learning is a life-long venture, and as an educator, I try to
communicate my passion for learning through my teaching. I strive to make
the classroom a setting where students feel comfortable openly sharing ideas
while understanding the importance of respecting others' opinions. I find
that the multicultural environment at AIS-Salzburg provides students with a
more global perspective by allowing them to explore other cultures first hand.
As an English teacher, helping students to achieve an excellent command of
the English language in terms of reading, writing, speaking and listening
is, of course, top priority. Initially, the focus is on the mechanics of
the language, but at the upper English levels, emphasis is placed on
the mastery of the language necessary to succeed at the college level. It
is wonderful to see students make great strides in their language abilities
and I am glad that the personal environment and small class sizes at
AIS-Salzburg allow me to give my students plenty of individual attention.

Being a teacher in an international school, like AIS-Salzburg, is a big challenge and a great opportunity for me to teach and also to learn. As a teacher I try to wake-up in my students the "worm of wisdom" to learn by themselves, the "worm of curiosity" to discover the world, for curiosity is the Mother of Science. The challenge is to help them discover the world in its parts and in its totality.
As a Spanish teacher, I try to teach the students not only one of the most spoken languages in the world, but I try to show them the diversity of the Spanish speaking countries with each own culture, history, tradition and beliefs. The world is not only black or white, but polychrome, as well as is our school; therefore, I attempt to build a bridge between my cultures (Spanish, Italian, Austrian and Polish) and theirs, try to find similarities and take the best of all of them. I'm very glad to be a part of this school.

Whatever someone's background may be, if they have access to a good education it can motivate and inspire them to reach their goals and achieve their dreams. On a day to day basis students can take pride in their achievements and the progress that they make.
As a teacher I have the pleasure of seeing students develop their mathematical ability and gradually gain confidence. I particularly enjoy the small school environment of AIS-Salzburg. It allows teachers to really get to know their students and tailor their teaching accordingly. Having taught at large schools for ten years, I can at last spend much more time helping students individually and cater for their specific needs.
I believe that students learn best when they are interested in and enjoy the subject. In my teaching I hope to give students an understanding of Mathematics that goes beyond text book examples and rote learning. My aim is to help them visualize and understand concepts and most importantly to learn to think imaginatively and independently.

Before joining AIS-Salzburg I worked internationally in a variety of capacities, including translating, interpreting and teaching French and German. Because of my interest in cultural diversity, I am delighted to be part of AIS-Salzburg's multicultural environment. I think it is important for young people to live in a broad, open-minded community without boundaries, where differences such as language, culture, race or confession are not an obstacle, but provide opportunities for the young adults of tomorrow.
